Install in ChatGPT
ChatGPT Web support is best-effort until ChatGPT shows the Hoist app and returns a Hoist tool result. Full MCP apps, including write actions, are available on ChatGPT web for Business and Enterprise/Edu. ChatGPT Pro supports custom MCP apps only for read/fetch permissions. Hoist includes write-capable tools, so Pro is not a complete Hoist host.
Hoist also exposes PPSR paid-operation shapes, but paid PPSR searches and pricing are not currently available through Hoist. See OpenAI’s current developer-mode requirements for plan, role, and web-only availability details.
Config
Section titled “Config”Name: HoistMCP endpoint: https://mcp.assets.hoistai.com/mcpAuthentication: OAuth- On ChatGPT web, open Settings > Apps > Advanced settings and enable Developer mode.
- Open Settings > Apps > Create app. Workspace admins and owners can instead use Workspace settings > Apps > Create app.
- Name the app Hoist, enter the MCP endpoint
https://mcp.assets.hoistai.com/mcp, and select OAuth authentication. - Select Scan Tools, complete OAuth when prompted, and wait for the tool scan to finish.
- Select Create, start a new chat, and choose Hoist from the app/tool picker.
- Treat ChatGPT output as Hoist source-backed only after ChatGPT shows the Hoist app and a Hoist tool result.
Smoke test
Section titled “Smoke test”Ask: “Use Hoist to run abn_lookup for ABN 11695718659. Do not run a paid PPSR search.” A passing result should show the Hoist app, name the Hoist tool, and return source-cited ABN data. This is a test to perform after setup, not a claim that ChatGPT has already passed it.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”- If Create app is missing, confirm the account is using ChatGPT web and check plan, role, and workspace policy. Pro cannot use Hoist’s full write-capable tool surface.
- If the OAuth window does not open, check browser pop-up settings.
- If calls return
403, re-approve OAuth. - If tools do not appear, reopen the draft app and run Scan Tools again.
