Install in Claude Desktop

Claude connects to Hoist as a remote custom connector, added from Claude’s settings. This is the current path for the hosted Hoist MCP server — no local config file is required.

Steps

1. Open Customize → Connectors, or Settings → Connectors in Claude Desktop.
2. Choose Add custom connector. Name it Hoist, paste the Hoist remote MCP URL (https://mcp.assets.hoistai.com/mcp), and save.
3. Team or Enterprise owners: add it from Organization settings → Connectors, then choose Add → Custom → Web. Members can then find it under Customize → Connectors.
4. Choose Connect, complete OAuth, and enable Hoist for the conversation before asking Claude to use a tool.

Local MCP servers configured through claude_desktop_config.json are a separate mechanism. Do not put the hosted Hoist URL there; add Hoist as the remote custom connector above.

Smoke test

Ask: “Use Hoist to look up ABN 11 695 718 659 and tell me the registered business name.” Claude should call abn_lookup.

Troubleshooting

• If the OAuth window does not open, check your default browser and pop-up settings.
• If tools do not appear after install, restart Claude Desktop completely.
• If calls return 403, re-approve OAuth because the cached token may have expired or had scopes revoked.
